I recently had the privilege of purchasing through Richard and Yami at Auckland Archery Supply, having been recommended to them by a friend. I was deeply impressed with the experience.
To start with, having ordered a riser of one colour only to realise that a preferred colour was available from the manufacturer at an extra cost, I asked if it was possible to make the change and they wasted no time in ordering it. Upon my asking about how to pay, they allowed me to pay the difference on pickup, despite (as I later discovered) the fact that they still had to hold the original riser in stock at their expense until sold!
When I came to collect my (first) bow, they went through the setup of the bow, including explanation of how to center the bow, adjust the plunger, adjust the brace height and tiller, as well as how to adjust the weight of the draw within the tolerance allowed by the riser. They further ensured that the selection of the limbs (and thus the draw weight of the bow) was suitable for my own strength and ability.
Upon realising that the intended quiver was not in stock, I was offered a slightly upgraded option which suited me well, and was also provided with a recommendation as to a superior bag for the equipment which I could see the sense in and was more than happy to take. The bow package also came with more arrows than I had expected, for which I am grateful!
Throughout this process, Richard explained how the bow was set up step-by-step. To add one finishing touch to the process of purchasing a quite excellent first recurve bow package, Richard packed away the bow once we had confirmed its suitability, and then observed me in setting up and taking down the bow myself to ensure that I was able.
Almost none of this was strictly required as such- they could have just taken my order and sent me the products. Instead, they showed that they genuinely cared about their customers, and about welcoming people to archery itself, effectively providing a bit of an archery lesson to boot!
Richard and Yami are themselves involved in the archery community, and so possess both considerable knowledge and experience in their family-run business. The service they provided was second-to-none, and so I have absolutely no reservation in recommending Auckland Archery Supply to anybody in need of such a store.

My son Aiden, who is 7 years old, discovered archery by chance. He told me he wanted to learn, and we were fortunate to find Richard. Richard is a wonderful person who helped Aiden get a full set of equipment and taught him how to use it properly. It’s worth emphasizing that Richard is also an excellent archery coach. Under his guidance, Aiden has successfully joined an archery club. By the way, archery clubs in New Zealand usually only accept children aged 10 and above. Thanks Richard and Yami!
